Texas City Alert: New TxDOT Rules Will Allow Changeable Electronic Variable Message Billboards in Your City & Its ETJ.

It’s true. Beginning June 1, 2008, newly enacted TxDOT rules will allow color, changeable-message electronic billboards that look like giant TV screens to be erected in your city, including the unincorporated extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ). But there is some good news; the outdoor billboard company must get your permission for TxDOT to issue a permit. Act now to adopt protective ordinances. You may not want your citizens to wake up to brightly lit, changing electronic billboards after June 1. Once they are turned on, it will be virtually impossible to unplug them.
